For Schools
I am a registered primary teacher in Dunedin, New Zealand.  For the past 10 years I have taught mainly art and technology in schools, holiday programmes (kidzinc.co.nz) and to community groups.  I am available for relief teaching and teacher release in schools and love doing workshops for community groups.  As a relief teacher I always bring a technology project for the day and students always respond appreciatively. Not all toys on this site are whole class projects.  I have listed below links to projects that I have done in the classroom. If there is a specific project you would like me to bring to your school please contact me.  I am more than happy to answer any questions.
Juggling Sticks
Balloon Drums
Crazy Kazoos
Slide Whistles
Thumb Pianos

Tetra Box Kite
Rammed Air Sled Kite
Delta Glider
Air Rockets
Ceramic Artwork
Foam Mouth Puppet
I have developed projects that are especially designed for primary students' abilities and interests.  I integrate science knowledge
where applicable and incorporate scientific method into the process of design and testing.  Where possible I have designed projects to use recycled materials because it's the right thing to do and helps keep costs down.  Project materials are free unless stated other wise.

Technology is a supremely versatile subject! At its core is problem solving through creating products or processes to meet a need.  It involves creative and analytical thinking skills, targeted and blue sky research, and provides hands on learning and capability building. If well managed students are left feeling empowered and a wee bit special!

For Toy Makers
The Aim of this site is to provide examples to schools and instructions and tips n tricks for DIYers.  It is really a site for adults and children, as most of the designs will require some older persons help with tools or techniques.

There are many ways to skin a pumpkin, putting it in the microwave for a few minutes first does wonders.  The Toys on this site can all be made with a variety of materials and design is always open to possibilities.  However they are mostly toys which rely on scientific and technological parameters which dictate their success.  Follow the design steps and notes accurately to guarantee a working toy... Or experiment, observe, test and reflect, to tweak a toy to just the way you want it. Happy toy making!
